Remember how I said I was going to sleep "for an hour" in my earlier entry? Apparently, my "hour" was four hours long. Now I'm awake again. Drat.
I pulled out a fairly old piece today (piano version written back on 5/23/2007) that I've always wanted to rescore for full instrumentation on Sibelius. (I'm thinking piano, cello, flute, and drums.) I've had it stuck in my head on and off for a month or so, and now seemed like a good time to start working on it.
I started with the percussion line and promptly made two interesting discoveries.
Discovery #1: I'm significantly better at writing percussion parts than I used to be. (When I started out, my approach to percussion was to flail randomly at the page with eighth notes, listen to it, and refine from there. It really shows in some pieces.)
Discovery #2: I'm incapable of writing this percussion part without picturing it as a Rock Band score.
