Hmm... what's that? Looks like a blue humanoid.

Longish name, unfamiliar, new icon -- looks like a unique. I'll look it up really quickly on the spoiler list.

"A sorceress in life, Adunaphel quickly fell under Sauron's sway and the power of the rings." Sure, fine, whatever. Not real impressive.

Only 2 hit-to-hurt rolls. Good.

Ack! This ex-sorceress is disenchanting my stuff left and right. And she gave me the Black Breath (a nasty stat-draining effect.) Better kill her fast.

There, she's finally gone. Looks like she dropped something.

"The Ring of Power of Adunaphel the Quiet"... ??? What's that?

Whereupon I looked back at the spoiler and saw NAZGUL in big, clear, scary-as-heck print.

And thought: I don't know the names of the Nazgul. My mother probably knows their names, for crying out loud*. I can't believe I lived through that fight!

After that, getting the "You feel less naive." message for restoring my wisdom was telling and true.


* Mom is a big Tolkien fan, so this isn't saying too much.

Update: the names of the Nazgul turned out to be non-canonical, so I feel better. Apparently Tolkien only identified Khamul by name.

For anyone who appreciates this....

I'm running a death mold mimic on ToME. (See http://www.t-o-m-e.net for more information.) I found a giant freakin' maze vault with undiggable walls in Mirkwood 21. Being a death mold mimic, I dropped my mimicry and teleported right in.

Thus far, I've pulled three artifacts out of this vault. Two of them are random two-handed swords (Alagdrog, Egrothel) and one is... Narthanc. I'm also hauling something like 8 excellent items, and, since I worship Eru Ilvatar, I have a book of Listen to the Music, and I'm IDing everything in sight. (Since I worship Eru Ilvatar, I also can't use Narthanc very well, but... it's Narthanc!)

I have one point in Mindcraft, so I can see Saruman of Many Colors from here, and I'm staying away from him. It's getting really dangerous in here, and I'm going to break and run with the loot soon.
