Local terrorism.

As it turns out, his motive was terrorism. He was just a solo idiot with no connections to anyone important.
Bitter words to swallow. (On a side note, my friend knew that the FBI was searching his apartment, and that fueled her comment. I didn't know about that until today.)
I still don't believe in judging people by a name or a religion... but I know this will serve as significant fuel for all the paranoia around right now. Fear breeds fear. Lack of trust breeds lack of trust.
...sigh....

To summarize for those who would rather not follow the link, an ex-UNC student rented a Grand Cherokee and drove it into the student commons (aka The Pit) with the intention of hurting people. He injured five students and a visiting scholar. One person had to be taken away on a stretcher.
I didn't observe any of this, being on south campus rather than north campus. However, the media descended upon Public Safety. I work in the back and didn't have to interact with them (though I tripped and almost fell while evading a barrier to leave the building at the end of the day.)
The guy's name is "Mohammed Reza Taheriazar". One of the first comments I heard from a friend was the "T" word, and for no reason other than his name. She's a good friend, but I was disgusted anyway. If terrorists were going to attack UNC, I rather suspect they would detonate a bomb in the hospital or at Memorial Hall. Charging through student commons with an SUV is inefficient.
Last week, two students were roughhousing and fell through a third story dorm window. One of them died from the injuries caused by the fall. The campus is still pretty shaken from that, and now this happens....
It's probably a pretty bad day to be a Carolina student.
