Due to lack of tenure within my department, there was no way I could make it home (or anywhere else) for the holidays. I worked yesterday, I will work tomorrow, and I only have today off.

Despite several invitations (and thank you all for those), I've decided to spend today peacefully at home recouping from work stress. I spent some time typing for NaNoWriMo this morning, and I've also been working on a cover of the Beatles' "Julia". Although I've given up for now (C#m on that bridge? That can't be right, I remember how dramatic that chord change sounds on piano!) it makes me feel close to my father. Fiddling with the piano often does. And that makes me happy.

I tried to call home, but no one picked up, so I'll try back later.

And don't forget...

Today, I called home, bathed a rabbit, sent a long-overdue letter to a former coworker regarding an incomplete project, and read [livejournal.com profile] ursulav's NaNoWriMo progress. Later, there will be turkey and dishes to wash.

I've never been particularly wild about this holiday, but I have it off this year. I don't have Christmas off, which is the holiday I normally go nuts over, so having Thanksgiving off makes me feel about as traditional as I'm going to get.

To my friends, family, and loved ones, near and far... have a good day today, and be glad and merry in whatever fashion you choose to be. I'm thinking of you, and I'm glad for the wonderful people that share this life with me.
