As I approached the post office to check my mail today, an older gentleman (who happened to be leaving the post office) swept the door wide, held it for me, and cheerfully announced, "Welcome to the United States Post Office, kids!" (I was surprised by the plural; it turned out another young woman was behind me.)

I laughed and said thank you. It was a spark of sunshine.
Also, I checked in with my placement firm, and it turns out that I will not be interviewing by Monday after all. Darn. The client with the position that they felt I fit best had cold feet because... I type so fast! It isn't a position with a great deal of word processing, and the client was worried that I might not be happy there as a result. I told my placement specialist that, really, I was happy to learn new skills and wouldn't mind being in a day job where I didn't have to type all that much. He'll relay this back and see how it goes.
