When I moved to Boston, I rapidly acquired affection for a store off Harvard called Little Tibet. Among other things, it sells swirly skirts. Swirly skirts are cheap and fit no matter what weight I happen to be. I bought a few. I wander back every now and then and pick up something else, and the garments I buy there are ones I feel happy wearing.

Feeling high on my recent promotion, I wandered in last Thursday and picked up a beautiful sleeveless dress that I had been coveting for a good four months. It's dark crimson and patterned in all sorts of marvelous ways. It laces up the front, and has (yes, I love 'em) a twirly skirt. I wore it to work Friday. I suppose I'll have to be more serious at work tomorrow, but it was lots of fun.

I also picked up an odd garment of an unfamiliar style. On the hanger, I couldn't figure out whether it was a skirt, a full-length skort, or pants. As soon as I took it off the hanger, it turned out to be a single piece of fabric with four ties on it. Extended experimentation determined that, if I wrapped one set of ties around my waist one way and one set the other way, I suddenly had... pants! It was wrap pants!*

Now, as a general rule, if I have to wander out of the dressing room and ask the saleswoman "Have I put this on correctly?" then I probably shouldn't own the garment. But it was silky and comfy and I bought it.

The one concern I have is that I'm not sure whether it is mandatory to tie wrap pants in the back first and the front second. The clerk told me I could do it either way, but I seem to see instructions online mostly for people wearing the back tied first and the front tied second... and I think going the other way is more flattering on me. Is this something where people are likely to think "Hey, she's wearing her pants backward!" or is it just a matter of personal preference? Hmm.

Anyway... so today, I'm wearing my brand new silky shiny wrap pants. They have a lilac, pink, and white floral pattern. I commented in the store, "You know, I don't think I have anything that goes with these," and it's true. If I want to wear them in public, I need a snow white, silvery, grey, dark pink, or medium purple blouse in a similar silky fabric. Lacking any of the above, I'm wearing an old pink cotton tank top. I am so comfy that I feel like I ought to ooze gently out of my chair. The comf factor is very high. And the fashion level is fairly low.

But that's okay, and for two reasons. One is that I'm not going anywhere of note today. (I might head to the grocery store, but that's it.) The other reason is my roommates. If fashion has left the building for the day, I'm quite sure it will be back; they're good hosts for it, even if I'm less so.

And now I'm going to break out the BPAL, 'cause I'm comfy, I'm gently caffeinated, I'm not going to work today, and life is good.

* Pants to the normal grammatic rule about pants plurality! It's only one piece of cloth, darnit!
