My Finale Songwriter demo has expired.
Once I figured out how to spell it (which took a bit of doing), I poked a demo of Sibelius today. Sibelius is Finale's big competitor. I was highly impressed with its niftiness. I would be happy to give Sibelius my $45.00 instead of giving it to Finale if Sibelius would give me a similar product that comprehends dynamic markings. No such luck. Sibelius recognizes dynamic markings with joy and skill and grace, but it costs... lots. Lots of lots. And I don't have any interest in about half of its spiffy features at this point in my life. (Three-quarters accidentals? Oogh, that has to sound strange.)
But I feel silly passing my $45.00 over for Finale Songwriter when I already know that I will want to upgrade from here. It does not have vocals. Neither does Sibelus. ProTools has vocals.
Of course, ProTools doesn't accept notation in any form; all input will have to be legitimately by microphone or by synthesizer or by any other spiffy tools I might acquire. If I can't play allegro 16th notes smoothly, they don't record smoothly, and that's all there is to it.
Sibelius and ProTools are teaming up to create a mutual product. Music engraving and vocals.
A release date hasn't been announced, which means it will be the twelfth of never or so. Or so it will seem if I sit around waiting for it.
Which leaves me with Finale. Or nothing.
I'm going to temporarily opt for nothing.
Meh.
